Sea and corrosive water cooling systems.

Is your water corrosive?

  • Seawater?

  • Deep mining water?

  • Iron, manganese or sulfphr bacteria?

Do you use exotic materials to counter corrosion?

With our water treatment technology you can:

  • Forget about titanium - use cheaper and readily available stainless or mild steel!

  • Forget about bacteria – we kill it!

  • Forget about chemicals – we don’t need them.

Forget about corrosion, biolife, or scale – we prevent it.

Plate heat exchangers are commonly used in power stations, refineries, and deep underground mines that operate with corrosive water or seawater cooling systems in desalination or power generation plants located by the seashore.  Since the water, contains large quantities of free chlorides the normal stainless steel metals used for plate heat exchangers plates, may not be used, as the free chlorides will corrode them in no time.  In the past titanium was commonly used in such applications.  However, the recent hike of metal prices makes it nearly impossible both on availability and price basis.

Another problem associated with plate heat exchangers is the cost of the packing, which has to be replaced every time the heat exchanger has to be cleaned.

In a search for an alternative solution WESU with its partners provide an economical solution, which combines the UET water treatment technology and plate, and shell heat exchangers made of 316L stainless steel.

WESU’s UET technology uses no chemicals and no reverse osmosis; only a very low level of electrical energy is used to treat the water so that there will be no free chlorine to attack the system.  By bringing the water into a kinetic equilibrium, which takes into consideration the chemical and engineering parameters of the water, the corrosive water becomes inert allowing the use of stainless steel or similar metals to be used.

While there are seven different corrosion mechanisms/processes, this UET technology takes care of the general corrosion process driven by the chemical imbalances in the cooling water - general corrosion which is the most common and most significant corrosion process, and by adding a fine filter it will also prevent pitting, crevice corrosion, and fouling and will increase  the system’s life.
